Hooked 39: Contraception

Written by Nigel Brunsdon on 18 August 2010.

hookedWe decided it was time to do a show on contraception, mainly because sexual health is something that drug services are supposed to address. I will say one thing before you download this show though, this one is not safe for listening to in polite company.

Because of the topic, and of course our 'presenting style' this turned out to be one of the funnier shows we've done.

One example quote from the show is "... paper based contraception is NOT the way to go."

You can either download the episode directly or better still you can subscribe to the podcast via iTunes which will automatically get each new episode as it comes out.

Via iTunesIf you're not someone who has listened to podcasts before, or if you have never even heard of them then we have an introductory article that explains all here.

Shownotes

This was a really funny episode to record, and from the amount of laughing I've done while listening to the show for these notes it really does come though in the recording.

We talked about the main forms of contraception condoms, the pill, emergency contraception, implants, contraceptive injection femidoms and of course dental dams. We also mentioned a possible future tmale contraceptive pill.

While talking about condoms I mentioned both the RapeX condom and an article I'd seen about spray on condoms.

Allison mentioned 'Frottage' (as I said in the show, she must have been brought up in a much posher area than me).

We talked about the churches views on contraception, rather than me taking up link space pointing out all the faults with them I'll leave that up to the church itself. Wikipedia's page on contraception that mentions Cassonova's "assurance caps", the Egyptian pessary that used honey and acids, and the waxed paper 'cap'.

We briefly talked about Project Prevention and their plans for sterilising drug users, also the Facebook group that opposes this.
