Hooked 23: Sharing
We've been talking a lot about sharing, so we decided to do a Hooked show on the subject.
We discussed reasons people share, the perceptions of sharing in trust relationships (eg husband and wife) and of course ways of minimising the risks of blood borne virus transmission if someone decides they are going to share.
We also again discussed the Sharing Question which is something that has been talked about on this site in a previous article.
You can either download the episode directly or better still you can subscribe to the podcast via iTunes which will automatically get each new episode as it comes out.
If you're not someone who has listened to podcasts before, or if you have never even heard of them then we have an introductory article that explains all here.
Shownotes
We mentioned, as we often do, Avril Taylor's study of injecting drug use in scotland.
The HepC Trust have a wonderful website called What Not To Share which has some of the coolest T-shirts and badges I've ever been lucky enough to wear.
Each year in the UK the Health Protection Agency does a study of injecting behaviours and their impact on blood borne virus transmission.
There are a couple of great presentations on sharing. He mentioned Matt Hickman's presentation during the show, but at the previous NCIDU07 Noel Crane also talked about reasons people inject.
We discussed the new research on the viability of HepC in used syringes and the fact it doesn't live as long as we first thought. You can see Robert Heimer's powerpoint and listen to the speech he gave at this years NCIDU.
