Hooked 17: RIOTT and supervised injecting
Hooked episode 17 is all about supervised injecting rooms and the recent media coverage of Professor John Strang's RIOTT (Randomised Injectable Opioid Treatment Trial) and its outcomes.
We also discuss the language used by the media and the way British media seemed to insist on calling it a 'shooting gallery'. As well as the RIOTT we talked about Insites supervised injecting facility where people are able to inject street drugs in a safe environment.
You can either download the episode directly or better still you can subscribe to the podcast via iTunes which will automatically get each new episode as it comes out.
If you're not someone who has listened to podcasts before, or if you have never even heard of them then we have an introductory article that explains all here.
Shownotes
Professor John Strang's RIOTT (Randomised Injectable Opioid Treatment Trial). You can view the initial outcomes here. Plus I found a presentation from the NCIDU05 about the same study which goes into more detail about eligibility criteria.
We also talked about the Insite injecting facility in Vancouver. Insite have released a comprehensive review of the research thats been conducted since they opened. You can view the documentary about Insite online (NOTE the original link only went to a small part of the documentary, this is now fixed. Thanks to Scott for pointing this out).
