Great Ben Goldacre article
The Guardian newspapers Ben Goldacre has written a fantastic article about drug use and Governments ability to ignore the advice it receives (especially with reference to recent ACMD reports).
When the Advisory Council for the Misuse of Drugs Act looked at the evidence on the reclassification of cannabis, they were simply ignored. When Professor David Nutt, the new head of the advisory council, wrote a scientific paper on the relatively modest risks of MDMA, he was personally attacked by the Home Secretary.
Ben is the author of the a great book called Bad Science, which exposes some of the poor thinking we let people get away with. I especially recommend the chapter on the wrinkled fecal obsessed fool Gillian Mckeith. Coincidently I bought the book just this week (at the time of writing this it's available on Amazon for only £3.60! Buy a copy).
